More than 22 million Americans have asthma, which is a chronic lung disease that makes breathing difficult at times. Sometimes asthma symptoms are relatively mild and go away on their own. Other times, symptoms get worse and turn into an asthma attack. An asthma attack, or flareup, can become so severe that it leads to death.
